Notebooks have traditionally been all about writing, or all about drawing. This is a notebook which is designed for both sides of your mind. On the right hand pages are lined pages as you would expect in a notebook to jot down words, numbers, and narratives. On the facing left hand pages, however, are polar graph paper. Lines in circles to facilitating diagrams, doodles, or other image recognition and reproduction tool.
Our text-based culture has been highly biased towards a linear narrative representation of the world, to the point that we have practically forgotten that image processing which we all do much of the time carries with it insights we may be dismissing rather than cherishing. This is a notebook to allow a regular and even time, as this notebook reminds it’s owner that it may be a good time to think.
Writing in a journal is like thinking, but it channels ones’ imagination through the point of a pen, leaving a fixed trail in time. Each reading will be a unique trail, but they are only possible because some person thought of something to write, and a medium to record it.
Instructions: Download the PDF file. It contains a file which when printed (on a duplex printer) will produce the pages ready for saddle stapling. It includes the first page intended to be printed on cover stock. If you have a one sided printer, you can print half the pages first, then the other half after turning the paper back for the other side.
Writing with a pen in a journal is an important right. They want us all only typing on keyboards, but never give up your pens!
